Milan Exist Europe

It is the result that no one believed could happen and turned the evening into the Rossoneri's worst nightmare in their glorious European history: Deportivo la Coruña defeated Milan 4-0 to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals where they will face Porto. The 4-1 advantage from the first leg was cut after only three minutes through Pandiani and before half-time Valeron and Luque had wiped it out. Fran then put the home side further ahead as Carlo Ancelotti's side suffered under the constant pressure, spirit and the great determination from the Galician outfit. It may have been an unexpected defeat but the Rossoneri have to get back to winning ways in the league, starting with Empoli this weekend.

LOOKING AHEAD

Honour to the opponents, honour to Deportivo. Milan quit the Champions League with head bowed, the Rossoneri abdicate in front of the most prestigious objective of the season. There are no excuses for it, they were unable to react against a ravenous opposition who was determined to look for a result which seemed to be impossible. When the opposition is superior, even only for one game, words don't matter, you just have to accept sportingly the verdict and applaude who has come off better. Milan's season is not over yet, they must keep calm and look ahead to the next games in Serie A after having deservingly dominated the league so far. The Rossoneri must make no major dramas out of the Riazor defeat and try to clinch the last target left. They will have to suffer because the tension of the games will increase and the pressure as well. Everything is still at stake and Milan still have to fight as they don't have won anything yet. To be a big team you need to win and be spectacular, as well as be able to react to disappointment. In the last eighteen years the Rossoneri have managed to dominate and bounce back even from the most difficult situations. After the defeat to Deportivo Milan will have to show that they have great courage, great responsibility and character. On Saturday the championship resumes, Milan must react.

While it was happening we could not believe it. Not even when the score was 3-0, enough to knock Milan out of the Champions League. We kept telling ourselves that sooner or later Milan would wake up. We were sure that Kaká or Shevchenko would steal a goal and that we would look back on this match as a huge fright. It was not like that at all. This unbeatable Milan, the side who never lose and always entertain, who always get out of trouble and were chasing a double of Scudetto and Champions League, were simply destroyed by Deportivo on a night that is already history.
