...Roddick can’t play the world’s no. 1 without enduring endless questions about Federer’s greatness, whether he’ll ever win a match, and why a great effort and his best tennis are never enough. At the Australian Open in January, expectations were high when Roddick took one on the chin (he won six games in three sets in the semifinals). At the U.S. Open, expectations were a lot lower when Roddick showed that he can play Federer evenly when he is at his best (all the more frustrating, then, that he didn’t win a set). At the Masters Cup last year, Roddick couldn’t convert match point. The list goes on and on, through the whole of Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, and Federer’s hometown of Basel, Switzerland. Grass, hard courts, indoors, outdoors, night, day, sun, clouds, warm, cold — you name it. Federer wins.

The problem for Roddick in these contests is always the same: He doesn’t match up well against Federer (no one does, but Roddick really, really doesn’t). Federer is the best in the business at reading serves and blocking them back, oftentimes softly, over the net. A player with a lot of groundstroke firepower, someone like Gonzalez, can take those returns and punish them, and he can also take a few cuts at Federer’s serve. Roddick doesn’t have Gonzalez’s booming forehand, so Federer gets away with slices and chips. Roddick doesn’t return serve particularly well and he doesn’t run like Rafael Nadal, either. If he did, he might be able to out-defend Federer in rallies. While Roddick’s volleys are much better these days, they aren’t consistent or sharp enough to keep Federer from passing him. If ever there was a player perfectly designed to lose to Federer, it’s Roddick.

Five years ago it was 1-0 to Los Angeles on a golden goal in overtime. Two years ago it was 1-0 to Los Angeles in full overtime. Last year it was 4-3 to Houston on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw. This time, it was 2-1 to Houston in regulation. How many other ways can the same team lose the big one?

“I’ve got no emotion left,” said Taylor Twellman, after the Revs gave up two goals 13 minutes apart during the final half hour before 39,859 at RFK Stadium. “I’ve lost every final every which way you can.”

其实在对方扳平之后,Revs的球员的表情就很难看了,似乎每个人都在想:okay..here we go again. we gonna lose this game again…

Till 8:15pm, I was moody and sullen… But my (and Mr. Kraft’s) Sunday was eventually saved by Patriots. A-l-m-i-g-h-t-y Patriots….

They made everything look SO FXXXING EASY!!! It’s like those boys were hitting some balls at the backyard, not pro football, not NFL.

It was the fourth time this season but the first time in five games that Brady made it through a game without hitting the turf. For that, he can thank an offensive line that gave him more free time than a Florida retiree.

The question is not who can beat the Patriots. It’s who can give them a game.

Moss knows what it’s like to be an anti-hero, a polarizing figure, an admired yet despised talent. He has lived that for most of his professional life, a mercurial, gifted athlete whose immense skills and football intelligence never have been questioned but whose work ethic and team-building skills have.

Until now. Until here.

***

New England WR Randy Moss. One half: Eight catches, 112 yards, four touchdowns … and one pass defensed. That’s right, all in the first half of New England’s rout of the Bills. Bill Belichick put him in to play deep safety on the final play of the first half, with New England up 35-7, and he batted down the Hail Mary from J.P. Losman. Dude’s living a charmed life.

***

Did you hear what John Madden said Sunday night during the NBC telecast? At the moment, Brady is playing better than anyone he’s seen play the quarterback position. Heck of a statement, considering Madden was a collegian and then a coach during the Unitas years, and Dan Marino, Elway, Peyton Manning and Joe Montana have come since then. Pretty rare air.

***

So who will stop this Patriots team, which steamrolled the shorthanded Bills, 56-10, by scoring on every possession orchestrated by Brady’s steady hand?

Who, if anyone will make this franchise pay for going for it twice on fourth down and short yardage inside the 10-yard line? ...

And Belichick actually likes Bills coach Dick Jauron.

Just imagine what he’ll do to Eric Mangini and the Jets in Week 15.

***

The 10-0 Pats are at a different level right now. Some of the plays between Brady and Moss were so ridiculously good you had to laugh, and by the time Kyle Eckel went over the goal line early in the fourth quarter, the Pats had scored touchdowns on all seven of their offensive possessions.

In other words, there’s the Pats – and then there’s everyone else.
