This morning was an epic struggle with my work computer. The problem was nothing new but today it totally went up to a new notch.
It's like bloomberg logon needs finger print authentication right? So there's a sensor device on the keyboard that I was supposed to press my finger on. In a perfect world, I would be able to login and do stuffs on bloomberg. Somehow this morning the stupid computer couldn't recognize the stupid device after I rebooted the computer.
Why did I have to reboot my computer during the trading hour? Because it's SO DARN SLOW! And why was it so slow? Because I didn't reboot it for ages. And why was that? Because in 99% of the time I would get this problem, which was again proven to be right this morning. And here you go.
Like I said, it's nothing new. I had had this problem dozens of times before and I was almost an expert now. There were a few tricks to make it work all right, like checking device manager, finger print sensor setting and the usb cable, sometimes even requiring another reboot or two. As painful and stupid and time-consuming as they could be, they always worked.
Not this morning though.
To make it worse, the guy who now oversee our computer system seems to have less idea than I do. After I bugged him with the same problem two or three times in one month, now he just pretent to be busy when I sametimed him about the problem. Argh! I missed always friendly always knowing DJ already (for the record, I hated his obsess to French soccer though)! Anyway, even if the guy came over, I didn't think he would have more tricks other than merely rebooting computer or disabling/enabling the device.
Hey, I even tried to reinstall the bloomberg driver! Still no luck there. With other works in hand, I had to continue working w/o bloomberg, and everything on my taskbar was a complete mess (I have a little bit of OCD when it comes to the order of taskbar buttons). I felt so frustrated and miserable, and had to try my best not to let out on the work or collegues.
Anyway, people always say you keep trying and good things happen. After finishing some of my work, I rebooted the machine again. And I didn't know how many times it was, but it was truly charm. The computer overcame its short momery loss and recognized the device. I logoned bloomberg and finished the reports before it was too late. I am a happy person now. THE END.
eta: oh my. why do they have to do system update TONIGHT? okay, I'll be fully prepared to brace another delightful morning...
eta on Apr. 1: it was just great. Again I got the same problem. Fortunately God have mercy on me today. I quickly solved the problem and it only required one reboot. April fool's day FTW!!!
