Memorial day weekend in the NYC  · 2009-05-26
During this memorial day weekend, my in-laws and lh and I went to the NYC, and had a wonderful time down there.

The weather was awesome over the weekend and we really couldn't have asked for a better time to visit the city. We stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel, only three blocks away from the Time Square. Having made the full use of a 2-day all-loop double-deck bus tour and a Sunday night 2-hour cruise tour, we visited the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Central Park, the Wall Street, the Ground Zero, and the Empire State Building, among others. We also indulged oursevles in the rich selection of famous NYC restaurants.

That being said, I'm just happy to be back to Boston. I've never liked the NYC, rich or poor, and I guess I never will. There are just way too many people. I think my mind would blow if we stay longer. When I left home for work this morning, I almost thought today might be another national holiday since there were so few people on the street.

And now.. no way could I end my travel report without recapping our experience of the NYC restaurants, could I? So we go:

Dinner at 鹿鸣春(Midtown) on Day 1 - We went there upone many friends' recommendations (蟹黄小笼 and seafoods), but we don't really think very highly of their dishes. We found that 蟹黄小笼 was too salty - 蟹黄 was pretty good though - and the scallops were not very fresh. 鳝丝 were nice but maybe it's more appropriate to call it 茄汁 instead of 干煸. A-

Breakfast at Roosevelt Hotel Restaurant on Day 2 - The regular breakfast buffet you could find in any hotel, but since this is the NYC they are gonna charge you 23$+ per person. FAILY FAIL.

Lunch at ZiYuan on Day 2 - This restaurant is located in the World Financial Center across the ground zero. No one recommened it to us and we just happened to be there at the lunch time. The waiter who served us was from Taiwan and pretty chatty. We had a good time though. The service was great, but the food was not so much. Once again, the shrimp was not very fresh (by our standard, maybe a little bit high), making us vow not to order any seafood in a non-seafood restaurant. B+

Dinner at a Korean restaurant on Day 2 - A friend said any Korean restaurant on 32st between 5th Avenue and Broadway would be fine, so we randomly picked one, which turned out to be on 32 32st - pretty neat. I ordered a noodle dish with spicy beef, so-so. Lh and in-laws ordered Unadon, one of which was a little smelly, and another one had too much cooking wine to cover the smell. Their small dishes are quite delicious though. B

Lunch at the food court of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Day 3 - The view was undoubtably great and the hot dogs were quite tasty too (nothing beats those of the Fenway Pahk though)! A-

Dinner at 成都印象 on Day 3 - A few friends recommended it while a friend said they were going down now. We went there anyway and were very happy that we did. We ordered 樟茶鸭,孜然羊肉,夫妻肺片和二姐兔丁。In exception of 二姐兔丁, all dishes were great and pretty authentic. The problem of 二姐兔丁 was on either the soy sauce, or 豆豉, or both, which tasted weird. But 夫妻肺片 was aweseome, especially the spicy sauce. A+

Brunch at an American restaurant on Day 4 - We looked for a Chinese noodle house which should be 100 meters away from the Time Square, but only found a ruin. We had to settle with this restaurant nearby, which was a pleasant surprise. I had a dish of 4 pancakes with strawberries on the top, which was awesome and reminded me of the trip to Bar Harbar. A

So much for our advanture in NYC. It was fun, but I do hope I don't need to go back there in the near future. Those Yankees caps made me physically sick. Seriously.

Once again, happy to be home! *proudly sings: Boston you are my home.*
