My third (and a rain-shortened) Sox game of the season  · 2009-06-19
On Thursday night, I went to my third Sox game of the season, the inter-league series finale against the Marlins.

The Marlins are Domi's favorite and I always covert their young talents (plus, hello Josh and Mikey and Brad). So once I found out it's Lester who would pitch this game, I jumped on board. It's a pity though, that Wednesday's game actually marked the 500th consecutive sellout at the Fenway. Lots of the coupons and gifts were given out and, most importantly, the weather was so good (and Orr was in the green monster and greeted JBay between innings!!!). Anyways, without further ado, let me c&p my running diary here, which is an actual diary that I typed on my iPhone before/during/after the game.

11:00am EST Apparently my boss has tonight's tix but he won't go, citing having a cold. Yeah, right. He once left a Yankee-Sox game in the 8 inning and then missed JBay's game-tying 2-out 2-run homer in the 9th and Youk's walk-off homer in the 11th.

3:30pm Boston.com raised the concern of a possible rain delay, saying the tarp is on. FML. Exactly like what I heard before my first game of this year.

3:40 The lineup is out. Hi Jon hi J.D. hi Greenie~

3:52 The Sox weather update says the gate will open on time. How cheering it is (yes this is sarcastic 'cause they always say so).

4:04 Oh please stop raining. Pretty, pretty please.

4:15 Boston.com says it's still raining at the Fenway. *SADFACE*

4:19 Is Bob Ryan my boss' pen name? They declared their love to Nick Green on the same day! But in these days who not named Lugo and in their right mind won't love Greenie?

4:45 Am going to get something to eat at South Station. If they think they could coax me to buy 3 hotdogs & 2 beers before canceling the game, well, they'd better think again.

5:20 Keep refreshing Boston.com for the latest update, but there is none. ESPN is reporting the first day of US Open was rained out. Just great.

5:34 Still raining. Nevertheless, I'm going. Not sure if my seat has cover. I brought a raincoat (from lh's graduation ceremony) and plastic bags with me.

6:00 Why is taking T to the Fenway before a home game always so struggly? As much as I love the Sox and Fenway, living in the Kenmore area sounds horrible to me.

6:10 Bweeeeee! I'm at the Fenway now and it's not raining (A few rain drops are not considered as rain. PERIOD)!!!

6:15 Just print out my ticket at a kiosk outside the gate E. JBay on the ticket! <3

6:25 Look at my seat! Right on the third baseline beside the green monster. Close to JBay like never before. XDDDD

6:28 To make things better, the tarp is now off. Epic glee!

6:41 The grounds crew is working on the running tracks and the mound. The pitchers and catchers are loosing in the right field. Hi Jon! Hi 'Tek!

6:45 So that little gate on the left field to the green monster does have a lock.

6:50 The pre-game ceremony at the home plate. Too far for me to enjoy.

6:55 Oh noes. It started to rain again while the national anthem was on.

7:10 Nevertheless, here are two ceremonial first pitches. "Play ball"!

7:12 The fielders take on field. Hi JBay!!!!! And oh hi Ells.

7:15 Okay, the game is finally under way. So we have a 5-min rain delay. Big deal.

7:16 Awwww. JBay is really close to where I sit. I really should have brought a poster to show him some love. The guy sitting 2 rows front keeps trying to get his attention by shouting his name. Easy, big fella.

7:18 Ohhh, a base hit from the Marlins. Here goes Jon's no-hitter.

7:33 Youk went yard!!!! The ball absolutely crashed onto the top of the green monster. And they played the goal song! FANtastic!

7:35 Am I the only person who thinks JBay's base running is quite funny?

7:38 Crap! The Marlins just homered and tied the game. The ball almost landed on the same spot as Youk's. An awesome fan threw it back to the field. JBay had to pick it up and throw it into the stand again.

7:43 ARRRRGH! Another solo homer. Poor Jon. Today he's clearly not at his best.

7:47 Jon gave up another single. John the pitching coach is on.

7:49 50 pitches for Jon already. So far he's only got 4 outs. Poor kid.

7:52 Man, Having concentrated on the game for 36 minutes plus 55 seconds, I only averted my eyes for 5 seconds and I missed the play they caught a Marlin steal. FML.

7:58 The batters ain't helpful either, 3 up 3 out. All easy flyouts.

8:03 "Let's go Red Sox! clap clap clapclapclap".

8:12 Aww I love Greenie's at-bat song.

8:19 A bathroom break later, I found out Jon's having one on one out. J.D. got the flyout for the 2nd out.

8:22 DD's hot chocolate is tasty! BTW a beautiful backhanded flip to Pedey from Greenie ended the inning.

8:24 J.D. is at bat. He has no intro music whatsoever. Is it a moment of silence for the pitcher? ...Or not. He strikes out. :(

8:28 Timmah! My twitter just said he won the award for the best NHL goalie of the year!

8:29 JBay is on! Only 2 seconds at-bat song? That's not nice. I wanna hear "Alive"! He hit a flyout to the center fielder on the warning track line. The Sox are down in order.

8:39 Phew, the first 1-2-3 inning from Jon tonight. 105 pitches already for 5 innings. No move at the bullpen though. Ah, it starts to rain again.

8:42 "Let's go Red Sox! clap clap clapclapclap". Papi was at the plate, and the shift was on. The ball popped up to the shallow center. Five fielders crowded underneath, but somehow the ball hit the top of 2nd baseman's glove and dropped to the ground. Papi is safe at 1st.

8:46 YAY for Chara and Coach Julien, who just won the awards for the best defender and the best coach of the year. Vegas baby!

8:49 With 'Tek batting. Ells stole 2nd base, who earlier reached 1st on a forceout. Oh boy, look at his white(?) jersey. I feel for the housekeeper at the Fenway tonight.

8:51 But 'Tek strikes out. The score remains at 1-2. :(

8:53 Aww, Masterson is warming up. Oh no, scratch that. It's my rookie Daniel Bard with big ears! OMFG, I'm gonna see 100 mph fast balls live!!

8:56 The rain is getting harder and harder. But my raincoat rules! Much better experience than what I had in the Pats game last year. That was an absolute disaster.

8:58 OOOOOh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The chief umpire just decided to delay the game. BOOOOOOOOOOO! But still, the tarp is on :( Hey, playing Paps and Manny's "Blame It On The Rain" on the jumbotron ain't helpful!

9:08 Decided to go home. It's not like the rain is gonna end soon. After all I'll have to get up at 6 for work. So here I am... sitting pretty on the T.

10:10 Am home. It's still raining and the game is still in delay. Boston.com said it might be it.

11:32 Oh man, now the game has been finally called. Poor Jon got his 6th loss of the season. Although he didn't have a good control tonight, he still kept the Sox in the game. 1-2, 4 innings left, big deal. The best scenario would be that the game resumed after 1+ hour delay, so both starters would have been out of the game, and then the Sox batters would have had a great chance to pull it back facing the Marlins bullpen. Yes I'm dreaming already.

11:35 All right, let's call it a day. Hope I'll have better luck on July 3rd. Let's go Red Sox, clap clap clapclapclap.
