On Tuesday I got to see my fifth game of the season at Fens. Me likey.
Went there when the gates just opened, and caught the last part of the Sox's batting practice. The bonus points: Papi and Nomah hugging, Penny being chatty, and JBay all smiling. Me likey.
Bought two Fenway Franks and one bottled water. The lady only charged me the hotdogs. Me likey.
Saw Heiti and Dan 'CHB' Shaughnessy hosted NESN's pre-game show beside the home dugout. Me likey.
Saw Georgie and Clay really close. Me likey.
Finally it didn't rain when I was at Fens. Me likey.
But it was way so hot and my seat was down at the end of the right field facing the sun. Me no likey.
The plus side was I sat right under the facade with all the Sox retired numbers. Me likey.
Yes the ceremony to retire Jim Rice's #14 was held before the game. Me likey.
Many HOFers showed up and Jimmy walked in from left field in a standing ovation. Nomah gave him a bear hug outside the visitor's dugout. Jimmy's speech gave me goosebumps. Me likey.
Too far away from the home plate, I had to watch the close-ups from the jumbletron. Me no likey.
Johnny Pesky unveiled the retired No. 14 right above my head though. Me likey.
Wake and 'Tek presented Jim a big board with #14 and players' autographs on. Me likey.
Sat right beside the visitor's bullpen. Me likey.
A wall blocked the view of the Sox bullpen. Me no likey.
Didn't miss the fist-bump between Masterson and Bullpen Cop though. Me likey.
The pitcher and catcher and fielders took on the field and the game was on. Me likey.
Got to see Orlando Cabrera and Nomah batting. Me likey.
Couldn't be able to see Matt Holliday who was traded to the Cards last Friday. Me no likey.
Clay was being shaky from the very beginning. Me no likey.
Somehow he got out of the first without any real damages. Me likey.
Ells had a leadoff single and then stole second (his #45 of the year). I too, of course, caught the action with my little camera, 'cause nothing is certain but taxes, death and Ells stealing bases. Me likey.
But neither of his next three teammates couldn't send him home. Me no likey.
BTW Youk got a new at-bat song. 'Oh baby, you, you got what I need but you say he's just a friend. But you say he's just a friend'. Me likey.
The A's kept hitting singles, and somehow they were up 2-0 in the 2nd inning. Me no likey.
Noticed there were 6 ladies sitting 3 rows in front of me, all in a green JBay jersey. Me likey.
The A's starting pitcher cruised through the 2nd, despite his record of 2-7. Me no likey.
Clay wasn't brilliant, and kept getting hit. Got the job done in the 3rd though. Me likey.
Ells singled again. It's his fifth straight multi-hit game. Me likey.
Base was loaded with one out. Youk was up. Me likey.
Youk doubled and the Sox tied. Me likey.
Pedey scored with a Papi groundout and then JBay drove Youk home with an infield single. The view from my seat was fun. It was far, but definitely fun. Me likey.
Oops. The A's manager argued a call with 3rd base umpire and got tossed out. Boy, we had seen it all. Me likey.
Again, JD doubled in JBay, who beat the throw home and JD advanced to third. The double was into our corner! Me likey.
Poor Mikey was the 3rd out. Me no likey.
But the Sox was up 5-2 after the 3rd inning. Me likey.
Both pitchers somewhat settled down. No clean innings, nor further damages done. Me likey and me no likey.
A guy in the nearby section proposed and his girl said yes! Me likey.
Clay gave up a double in the 6th with 2 outs. Tito came out to lift him. Was it Clay's last game in the Sox uniform? Me likey if that means Doc's coming.
RR merely threw one pitch and the inning was over. That was quick. Me likey.
JD Singled and then Mikey's double sent him home. 6-2. Me likey.
RR too gave up a double after 2 outs in the 7th. Oki was on for a lefty-lefty matchup, but he gave up a single before getting things done. Ells threw to the home plate but the ball hit the baserunner. E8. The 2nd error in his entire big league career. 6-3. Me not likey.
The 7th inning stretch. 'Take me to the ball game'. Me likey.
Oki wasn't in his best today. 6-4 in the 8th with 1 out. Was he affected by Dice-K and the Sox's airing dirty laundry in public? Me not likey.
OMFG TITO BROUGHT OUT DANIEL BARDO AND HIS BIG EARS DESPITE THE FACT THAT HE PITCHED ONE INNING YESTERDAY NOW I GOT THE CHANCE TO SEE HIS FREAKIN' 100MPH FASTBALL LIVE BOY ME LOVEY!!!!!
OMFG THE FIRST PITCH BARDO THREW WAS EXACTLY A 100MPH FASTBALL AND EVERYONE WAS PSYCHED WHEN THE NUMBER WAS SHOWN ON THE JUMBOTRON. PLUS THAT SICK SLIDER HE GOT? THAT'S NOT EVEN FAIR! ME LOVEY.
Cabrera singled though. Me not likey.
Nomah grounded into a double play. The Sox and Bardo are out of the inning. Me likey.
'Sweet Caroline'. Happy crowd was happy. Me likey.
JBay was hit by pitch. Poor guy. Me no likey.
JD doubled and JBay tried to get home but was tagged out at the plate. Me no likey.
A sac fly from Mikey scored JD. The Sox leaded 7-4. Me likey.
With 'Dirty water' on, Pap was in. The house was rocking. Me likey.
Pap walked the first batter. That was asking for trouble. Me no likey.
Didn't really have a clue how it happened. A few hits and two E6 errors later, the score was tied at 7-7 with two outs. The third blow save of the year from Pap. I had already packed to leave. Had to sit down again. Me hatey.
Bottom 9th. the Sox offense did nothing. Me no likey.
I sneaked into the 2nd row for a better view. Me likey.
The fans near the visitor's bullpen kept taunting their relievers in a good nature way when they warmed up. "Hey, that's all you got? My grandma throws harder than that." Me likey.
Manny D was on. JBay saved our rear on a running swan dive that would drive Nomah home from 3rd base. So beautiful. Me likey.
Thought JD had it, but the ball fell short juuuuuuuuust in front of the Sox bullpen. 7-7 after the 10th. Me no likey.
Awesome defense! Mikey stretched into the A's dugout and caught a foul ball. It was followed by Pedey pawing down a hop ball and throwing it to Youk on his knees. The police standing beside me commented: 'he's the best 2nd baseman I've ever seen.' Me likey.
Oh no! 8-7. A's. Pitching change. Me hatey.
Fans kept taunting the poor kid closer by calling pitches he threw. 'Inside low.' 'Outside high.' Me likey.
Oops. A dude made a statement regarding the kid's mom's health. He got thrown out. Me no likey.
Saito gave up another hit. 9-7. A's. Me hatey.
Georgie threw out Adam Kennedy (who had a five-hit night. five!) on stealing second to end the inning. Finally a player was caught against stealing us. Me likey.
Down 2 runs with 3 outs left. That's a huge mountain to climb. Me no likey.
Mikey wasted no time hitting a single. Me likey.
Georgie was on. The security guy standing besides me predicted: double play. I argued: homer. Apparently neither of us was right, since Georgie singled. Me likey.
Lowrie pinch run for Mikey. Greenie laid down a perfect sac punt to move Lowrie and Georgie over. Me likey.
Ells was on the plate. The crowd was electrified. But he was out at first, driving in Lowrie. 8-9. Me likey.
Down 1 run with the last out left. Pedey flied out to deep right and stranded Georgie at 3rd base. Inning over. Game over. The Sox lost. Me hatey.
The straps of both of my flip-flops broke. I had to tie them to my feet with a plastic bag. Faily fail. Me no likey.
Waited for more than 20 mins for an in-bound green line T. During the time there were 6 or 7 out-bound T's passing by. Me no likey.
My iPhone died so I had to call lh with a pay phone at the T station (I was also down to my last two quarters). Somehow I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. Me no likey.
Finally got home at 1am. Me no likey.
But I did get to see the ceremony to retire Jimmy's number and many HOFers and Nomah and Bardo and Lowrie and Clay. So all in all, me likey!
